Chapter History

Missouri State Capital

On June 22, 1993, representing the National Board, Lynette Schick presented the charter and installed the first slate of officers.  For the first few years, the newly formed chapter faced and overcame many operational and financial challenges, but through the dedicated efforts of the Board and the membership, the chapter continued to go forward.  Since then, the Chapter has continued to grow and develop into one great chapter.

Chapter Presidents:

  • Elaine Patterson (1993-1995)
  • Larry Kloud (1995 – 1996)
  • Debbie Bruns (1996-1999)
  • Debbie Alderson (1999-2000)
  • Max Foresman (2000-2001)
  • Terry Boldt (2001 – 2004)
  • Denise Evans (2004 – 2005)
  • Maurine Hill (2005 – 2009)
  • Cathy Easton (2009-2012)
  • Betty Kinney (2012 – 2013)
  • Vicky Buschjost (2013 – 2014)
  • Annette Wallace (2014 – 2017)
  • Beth Rodeman (2017 - 2019)
  • Melissa Adams (2019 - 2020)
  • Tina Dillon (2020 - 2026)

Over the years, various fundraising events supporting Chapter operations, education and scholarships have become the mainstay of Chapter operations.  The Holiday Extravaganza/Silent Auction has become a much-anticipated annual event, with the funds raised, going toward education and member scholarships to attend national conferences.  Planner and supplier scholarship recipients have attended national conferences every year since 1994.

The chapter has given awards for the Planner of the Year and Supplier of the Year since 1994. In 1996, the President's Award was added.

The chapter newsletter, The Capital Advantage premiered in 1996.  In 2003, the newsletter was renamed to the MOCAP Gazette. In 2024, the newsletter was renamed again to the MOCAP Mintue. Originally published quarterly, the newsletter has transitioned through several formats and is currently a bi-monthly publication.  In 2004, the Missouri State Capital Chapter stepped into the electronic age by establishing a Chapter domain name and website (www.sgmpmocap.org) and added a Facebook page in 2009. In 2017 the chapter domain name changed to (www.sgmpmocap.com). In 2024, the chapter joined the national website (__).

Since 1998, the Chapter has hosted four golf tournaments, sponsored three Relay For Life teams and sponsored several charity basket raffles, food drives, coat drives, school supply drives, garage sales, Christmas gifts for a designated nursing home, etc., for charities such as Good Samaritan Center, Rainbow House, Dreams to Reality, Dream Factory, Salvation Army, Camp Quality, and Central Missouri Honor Flight, and American Cancer Society-Relay For Life, to name a few.

Board retreats are held annually. The Board retreats are the time in which policies and procedures are reviewed, budgets and meeting dates are set, Board liaisons to committees are designated and other significant operations issues are discussed.

In 1997, the chapter initiated Bosses’ Day, which was historically held annually in October.

The Missouri State Capital Chapter has received national recognition at the National Conferences over the years to include:

  • Membership Award – 2003, 2006
  • Certificate of Success – 2003
  • Highest Membership Retention Rate – 2006

Annual awards programs were developed to recognize the efforts and achievements of the Chapter membership.  Suppliers support has always been vital to the success of the Chapter.  The Diamond Award was created to recognize the Supplier who has contributed the overall highest amount of financial support to the Chapter, during the previous SGMP year.  Gold, silver and bronze certificates of appreciation are given to both suppliers and planners, based upon their level of financial support contributed to the Chapter.

In 1993, the MOCAP Chapter was the idea of one person, who sold the idea to several others.  Hard work and support have kept the Chapter thriving these past 20 years, but the Chapter's treasure…its heart and soul, is its membership.

We thank those members over the years, whose active participation have made today’s celebration possible.  Most of all, we thank all of you for your continued leadership and support, which will carry the MOCAP Chapter into a promising future!
