Chapter HistoryExplore the highlights of our chapter's rich history, from prestigious events to notable achievements: 1990 - Hosted the SGMP National Educational Conference. 1995 - Won "Newsletter of the Year.” Sadie Rogers, Atlanta Chapter Founding Member and former Chapter President, was elected President of the National Board of Directors (1995-1997). 1996 - Conducted our first Chapter Educational Conference in Savannah, Georgia. 1997 - Held the First Regional Educational Conference in Macon, Georgia, in partnership with the Florida Capital Chapter and Tennessee Chapter. 1999 - Developed the Chapter’s first Strategic Plan. 2000 - National SGMP President Lynette Schick spoke at the Fourth Annual Regional Educational Conference in Athens, Georgia. Won the Membership Award at the National Conference in San Diego. 2001 - Expanded our reach by hosting a meeting in Huntsville, Alabama. Silent Auction set a record, raising over $5,000 for the Scholarship Fund. 2002 - Launched the inaugural "Patrons and Partners Night," recognizing our supportive employers and spouses/partners. Peach Beat newsletter won 2nd place for 2001 Newsletter of the Year and earned the special "Emeril Lagasse 'BAM' Award" for the "Chef's Corner" feature. 2003 - Peach Beat won 3rd place for 2002 Newsletter of the Year. 2004 - Peach Beat continued its success, winning 3rd place for the 2003 edition. 2005 - Partnered with the Central Florida Chapter to sponsor the Southeast Regional Education Conference (SREC) in Tybee Island, Georgia, with 140 attendees. Led all chapters in donations at the National Conference in Sacramento, California. ROI: Generated $5.1 million in business for our chapter suppliers. 2006 - Peach Beat won 1st place in the national competition for the 2005 Newsletter editions at the National Conference in Denver, Colorado. Darryl Arancio received SGMP's highest honor, the Sam Gilmer Award, as the Supplier of the Year. Celebrated our 20th anniversary! Vickie Grace, a founding member, is still actively involved. 2007 - Became the second-largest SGMP chapter with 219 members, surpassing the Sacramento Chapter! Only NATCAP (DC) had more members. Ruth Harris, CMP, CTAS, CGMP, won the Sam Gilmer Award as the Planner of the Year. 2010 - Officially changed our name to the Georgia Peach Chapter to better reflect the statewide membership. 2015 - Received the Chapter Merit Award at the 2015 SGMP National Education Conference 2018 - Chapter President, Latwanda Broughton received the Top Young Professional award. 2024 - Recognized at the SGMP National Education Conference for Chapter Operations.
